The Foundation
Development began on a Unix OS — creating the original ASP server and establishing the core architecture that would power everything that followed. SaaS and PaaS service models were applied to online payment gateway development before either term existed in the industry.
AssuredCard Launches
The first version of the AssuredCard system went live with terminal-based payment processing and an intranet portal for customer operations. A development team was assembled to create an Internet Gateway and Intranet Portal for ASP services integrated into the first Online Merchant Payment Gateway.
Universal Payment Gateway
The challenge was creating an application that was universal for all web portals and browsers — Netscape in 1997. A Universal Online Payment Gateway with Financial Institution Registration was developed using HTML, Java, and JavaScript on open Internet standards. Two servers running different OS configurations — Linux/Novell and Microsoft NT — provided redundancy and cross-platform validation.
Secure Gateway Launch
TLS was being introduced and adopted in 1999. AuthConfig provided centralized identity management. SSSD was integrated with the Oracle database engine. The result was a Universal Secure Encrypted Payment Gateway that handled session control, identity verification, and encrypted data transmission. One of the largest banks in the country reviewed the security backend — and found it more robust than their own systems. Zero customer data breaches from 1994–2001.
AssuredCard Rebuilt
Operating on the SWOMI mesh network — a private WireGuard-encrypted infrastructure with zero public-facing servers except the edge proxy. Wazuh threat detection, CrowdSec active defense, Prometheus/Grafana monitoring, and TLS on every connection. The same security-first philosophy that beat the banks in 1999, rebuilt for 2026.
